How to shrink a PDF that is too large to send
The tool reduces a PDF by turning pages into JPEG images at three quality levels. Scanned documents and photo-heavy PDFs shrink the most. Note: after compression the text becomes an image and can no longer be searched or copied. Files up to 50 MB are processed in your browser.
When it helps
Scans for e-mail
Scanned contracts and receipts are often much larger than needed.
Portal size limits
When an office or school only accepts files up to a certain size.
Archiving
Maximum compression saves space for documents you will not edit again.
How it works
- 01Upload the PDF.
- 02Choose maximum compression, balanced or high quality.
- 03Compare the size before and after and download the result.
Frequently asked questions
Why can't I search text in the compressed PDF?
Each page becomes an image, so the text layer disappears. Keep the original when you need selectable text.
When does compression not help?
For text-only PDFs without images the original is often smaller than the image version.
