How to shrink a PDF that is too large to send

The tool reduces a PDF at three levels. The default "Keep text" shrinks only the photos and scans inside, text, fonts and links stay and remain searchable. Strong and Smallest file turn pages into JPEG images: the file gets much smaller, but text can no longer be selected or searched. Files up to 50 MB are processed in your browser.

When it helps

    Scanned contracts and receipts are often much larger than needed.

  • Portal size limits

    When an office or school only accepts files up to a certain size.

  • Archiving

    Maximum compression saves space for documents you will not edit again.

Frequently asked questions

Can I still search text in the compressed PDF?

With Keep text, yes, only the images inside are reduced. Strong and Smallest file turn every page into an image, the text layer disappears and text cannot be selected or searched.

When does compression not help?

For PDFs that are mostly text without images. If the file does not shrink, you get the original unchanged, never a larger file.
