Quick answer: what Shopify is and who it suits in Czechia
What it is: Shopify is a hosted e-commerce platform (SaaS) — hosting, updates and security are handled by the vendor; you pay a monthly plan and build the store from themes and apps. Nothing is installed on your own server.
What it costs: Basic 670 CZK/month (499 CZK on annual billing), Grow 1,830 CZK/month and Advanced 9,510 CZK/month; Plus starts at €2,100 a month on a three-year term (Shopify pricing for Czechia, August 2026). On top of the plan, budget for apps — in Czechia you need more of them than elsewhere, see below.
Who it suits: companies selling across several countries and currencies, with higher volumes or a premium brand. Who it doesn't: a store selling only in Czechia and Slovakia — there Shoptet is cheaper and faster, because the local integrations come out of the box.
Shopify vs. Czech Solutions
Shopify powers over 4 million e-shops worldwide. It has a massive app ecosystem, excellent admin panel, and scales from small shops to billion-dollar brands. But how does it perform in the Czech Republic? If you're weighing multiple platforms, check out my complete Shoptet vs. Shopify vs. custom e-shop comparison.
Let's be honest about what works and what doesn't.
What Shopify is and how it works
Shopify is a Canadian platform that today powers millions of stores worldwide. It works as a rental, not ownership: you install no software, handle no hosting or updates, and pay a monthly plan for the service.
In practice it has four layers:
| Layer | What it is | What it means for you |
|---|---|---|
| Plan | monthly subscription by features and volume | the base cost, see pricing above |
| Theme | the store's design | free, or a one-off around 3,000–8,000 CZK |
| Apps | shipping, invoicing, feeds, marketing | in Czechia the main cost driver |
| Checkout | Shopify's own checkout | the platform's strongest part, only lightly customisable |
The advantage and the drawback are the same: standardisation. The checkout is better tuned than most competitors, but you can only change it within the platform's limits — and whatever the platform can't do gets added as a paid app.
What Shopify Does Well
International Sales
If you sell (or plan to sell) internationally, Shopify is the clear choice. Multi-currency, multilingual versions, automatic VAT calculation by country – Shoptet can't match this.
Design and User Experience
Shopify templates are on a different level compared to Czech platforms. They're clean, fast, and optimized for conversions.
App Ecosystem
The Shopify App Store has over 8,000 apps – upsell, cross-sell, loyalty programs, email marketing, reviews, AI product recommendations.
Stability and Speed
Shopify is a cloud SaaS solution. No hosting, updates, or security to worry about. Guaranteed 99.99% uptime.
Where Shopify Struggles in Czech Republic
Carriers
Shopify has no native integration with Czech carriers. Zásilkovna, PPL, DPD, Czech Post – you need third-party apps for everything (Packeta, Zaslat.cz, Boxday). It works, but it's extra cost and another moving part.
Payment Gateways
Shopify Payments doesn't work in Czech Republic. You need GoPay, Comgate, or Stripe. Setup is more complex than on Shoptet.
VAT and Accounting
Shopify doesn't understand the Czech VAT system natively. You need invoicing apps (Fakturoid, iDoklad) and correct tax rate configuration.
Heureka and Zboží.cz
Czech price comparison sites are crucial for local e-commerce. Shoptet has Heureka XML feed built in. Shopify needs an app or custom solution.
Price
Shopify Basic costs 670 CZK/month according to the current pricing for Czechia (499 CZK on annual billing). Comparable to Shoptet. But apps add up – realistically expect ~1,200–3,500 CZK/month for apps that Shoptet includes for free.
Who Shopify Is Right For
- International sellers – multi-currency and multilingual are essential
- Higher revenue businesses – Shopify scales better, especially with thousands of daily orders
- Premium brands – Shopify templates and checkout are design-leading
- Dropshipping – the app ecosystem for dropshipping is incomparably larger
- Advanced automation – Shopify Flow is an extremely powerful tool
Who Should Stick with Shoptet
- Czech/Slovak market only – Shoptet has everything natively
- Limited budget – lower monthly costs, fewer apps needed
- Czech support needed – Shoptet support is in Czech
- Price comparison sites matter – Heureka, Zboží.cz work instantly on Shoptet

Frequently asked questions
How much does Shopify cost per month in Czech koruna?
According to Shopify's pricing for Czechia (August 2026): Basic 670 CZK/month, Grow 1,830 CZK/month and Advanced 9,510 CZK/month; on annual billing 499, 1,370 and 7,130 CZK. Shopify Plus starts at €2,100 a month on a three-year term. Add apps for shipping, invoicing and comparison feeds — in Czechia they often cost more than the plan.
Does Shopify Payments work in Czechia?
No. Payments run through GoPay, Comgate or Stripe. Setup is a step more complex than on a Czech platform and it shows up in fees you need to factor into margin.
Can Shopify connect to Heureka and Zbozi.cz?
Yes, but through a third-party app or a custom feed — the platform has no native support. On Shoptet the XML feed for comparison sites is part of the platform. If those channels are your main source of sales, that's an argument for Shoptet.
Is Shopify better than Shoptet?
For the Czech market, usually not. Shopify wins where you sell across countries and currencies, need strong automation or a premium checkout. A detailed comparison including custom builds is in Shoptet vs. Shopify vs. custom.
What does a custom Shopify store cost to build?
With me a Shopify e-shop starts at 80,000 CZK — that covers design, a custom theme, Czech localisation, payment and shipping integrations and product import. The Shopify subscription itself you pay directly to them; it does not go through me.

My Approach
When a client needs international sales or features Shoptet can't provide, I recommend Shopify. I build Shopify e-shops from 80,000 CZK – including Czech carrier integration, payment gateways, invoicing, and Heureka. If your needs outgrow even Shopify, I offer fully custom e-shops in React and Next.js.
